SUB THREE

Vandersteen Audio

Room Adjustable Subwoofer for Music

The new SUB THREE builds on the years of technology featured in the 2WQ but with increased performance and a more powerful internal amplifier. The SUB THREE connects directly to the power amplifier, just like the front speakers. In addition, a high-pass filter is put between the pre-amp and the power amplifier. Either one or two subwoofers can be used. Similarly, it can be used in a multi-channel system, connected to the front channels. The SUB THREE also incorporates one of Vandersteen’s most innovative technologies: 11-band room EQ for perfect bass in virtually any room. The SUB THREE is unique in every way and adding it to a music system will upgrade it far beyond what you would expect from a subwoofer.

Here’s how it works: The high-pass filter lets all frequencies above 80Hz pass transparently. Below 80Hz, the signal is gradually reduced. At the same time, the subwoofer samples exactly the power amplifier signal identical to what the front speakers get, carrying the same sonic signature and same timing. It lowers all frequencies above 80Hz, however, low frequencies (below 80Hz) are amplified back to their original level. This type of connection ensures a perfect match between the subwoofer(s) and the front speakers.
